Bundesliga DONE DEAL: Nuri Sahin replaces Edin Terzic as Borussia Dortmund head coach

Nuri Sahin has replaced Edin Terzićlc as Borussia Dortmund head coach following the latter’s surprise resignation.

Despite leading Dortmund to the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final, Terzic stepped down on 13 June after two-and-a-half years in charge over two spells.

Sahin – a product of the BVB academy and former first-team player of over 250 appearances – is something of a ready-made replacement, though, having returned to the club in January to join Terzić’s coaching staff.

Sven Bender was also recruited as a co-assistant and will continue in the role under his ex-Dortmund teammate, who has signed a three-year deal through to 30 June 2027. “It’s a huge honour for me to be Borussia Dortmund coach,” said Sahin. “I want to thank all the responsible parties at the club for putting their faith in me. I’m really looking forward to the challenge at BVB. From day one, I’ll give it all my energy and work with real passion to maximise out chances of success.”

Sahin enjoyed two stints in Dortmund colours, winning the 2010/11 Bundesliga title under Jurgen Klopp. The former Real Madrid, Liverpool and Werder Bremen midfielder oversaw 92 matches at the helm of Turkey’s Antalyaspor in his first senior coaching role, before lending his expertise to Terzic at the start of 2024.

With his help, BVB climbed from sixth to fifth in the final Bundesliga standings, securing another season of Champions League football, thanks to their brilliant run to the final and the efforts of other German clubs in Europe.
