South Africa’s new coach Hugo Broos has unveiled Helman Mkhalele as his deputy, ending weeks of confusion over the actual occupant of the position.
South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed the appointment of Mkhalele as the Assistant Coach.
The former Bafana Bafana winger Mkhalele has been working as South Africa under-20 coach.
“Broos said he was highly impressed by Mkhalele’s knowledge of the game and didn’t hesitate to appoint him as his number 2,” SAFA reports.
Born in 1969, Mkhalele had a successful playing career with Orlando Pirates.
He was part of the Pirates squad that won the domestic league title in 1994 before claiming the 1995 CAF Champions League Cup.
Earlier reports had suggested that Broos had opted to retain his predecessor Molefi Ntseki as his right handman.
However, SAFA dismissed such reports.
