Niger is a country with a population of about 12 million, and a status of the poorest countries in the world. The team has never reached the World Cup OR African Cup of Nations finals.
Today Niger is ranked 163rd on the FIFA rankings after slipping down with a poor performance during the 2010 World and African Cup qualifiers where they finished last in the group including Benin, Angola, and Uganda with a single win all to show from their six matches.
However, their top goal scorer was Issoufou Alhassane, who netted twice. Considering to be one of the minors in African Football and could not be the fact that none of their players participate in European club football.
Their Champions National de Premiere Division has been running since 1965, although its structure or formation has been transformed on several occasions which now has the league divided into several groups with the other group coming together to compete in the “super league”.
