Nigerian Players abroad Africa Top Sports Lens On Nigerian International Performance In Europe

It was week of action for Nigerians international playing outside the shores of the country in various leagues majorly in Europe.


With the 2020-2021 season underway in the Scottish League, French Ligue 1, Belgian League amongst others, some Nigerian international were in action for their various clubs over the weekend.


Other players who are yet to kick off the new league season are involved in friendlies for their clubs.


Africa Top Sports monitored the performance of Nigerian players plying their trade abroad and how they performed.


In the Ligue 1, all Nigerian players were very much involved in action for their various clubs.

Henry Onyekuru played for 57th minute as Monaco defeated Metz in their second league game on Sunday.


Onyekuru started for the second consecutive time under new manager Niko Kovac and it was Monaco’s first win after a 2-2 draw in the opening game against Reims.

Josh Maja scored for Bordeaux in their 2-0 win over Angers on Sunday.

Maja became the first player to score for Bordeaux this season after he was set up by captain Laurent Koscienly in the 25th minutes.

The young forward who is yet to be called up to the Super Eagles was replaced by Jimmy Briand in the 66th minute.

His compatriot Samuel Kalu came in as a substitute in the 75th minute replacing Hwang Ui-no.

It was also a first victory of the season for Simon Moses as Nantes held on to a 2-1 win over Nimes.

Moses played for 90 minutes before he was substituted in added time as 10-men Nantes claimed their significant victory at home.

In the Scottish Premiership, Leon Balogun was an unused substitute in Rangers 2-0 away win against Hamilton Academical.

Balogun who have missed two previous games due to injury, returned to the squad.

However, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard didn’t see any reason to hurry him back to action.

His compatriot Joe Aribo was not part of the squad as he is yet to return from the injury he sustained against St Johnstone.

In the Belgian League Cyriel Dessier and Paul Onuachu were on the losing side on Sunday game between KRac Genk and Club Brugge.

Dessers, who was played throughout the game missed a penalty in the 47th minute as Genk loss 2-1.

While Onuachu sat on the bench throughout the game.

Dennis provided an assist for his teammate Hans Vanaken in the 22nd minute who scored the opener. 

Dennis came off for Charles De Ketelaere in the 75th minute.

Another Nigerian international David Okereke featured for Club Brugge for 90 minutes.

Kenneth Omeruo scored for Leganes in a pre-season  friendly against Eibar on Saturday at the Butarque Sports Facility.

Omeruo scored the Opening goal in the third minute heading home a Dani Ojeda’s corner kick.

The former Chelsea defender relegated with Leganes to the second tier of Spainish football.
