Monaco players celebrates their 1000th Ligue 1 victory over Nantes

Henry Onyekuru came off the bench to provide an assist that gave Monaco a 2-1 victory in Sunday Ligue 1 game at Stade Louis II.


Monaco hosted Moses Simon’s Nantes on Matchday 3 of the 2020/2021 Ligue 1 campaign.


While Moses started for his team, Onyekuru was benched as Niko Kovac preferred new signing Kevin Volland and Ben Yedder upfront.

Monaco got off to a good start and just five minutes of play, they took the lead through Sofiane Diop.


In the 18th minute, the visitors thought they had equalized as Ludovic Blas scored from a through the pass.


The goal didn’t count as VAR review saw that the player was offside.


Cesc Fabregas almost doubled the lead for Monaco but his effort was thwarted by Nantes goalkeeper.


Moses Simon had a clear chance to level for his side, but his effort failed to hit the target.


Both teams couldn’t score again before the half time break.


Monaco resumed the second half from where the ended the first half as they look to add to their 1-0 win.


However, it was Nantes that took their chance in the 61st minute through Blas who leveled from a Dennis Appiah’s cross.

Kovac made double substitution as Onyekuru and Willem Geubbels came in for Volland and Gelson Martins in the 63rd minute.


Two minutes of their introduction, Onyekuru cut Nantes defence open with a through pass to Geubbels who scored the winning goal.


In added time, Onyekuru almost scored as he powered a shot that Nantes goalkeeper parried to corner kick.


Pietro Pellegrini almost punished Nantes with the third goal, but he managed to miss the ball.


The game ended 2-1 as Monaco remain unbeaten with seven points from three games.


The victory is Monaco’s 1000th win in the French Ligue 1.
