Liverpool has been dealt with another major setback after Sadio Mane tested positive for covid-19 ahead of their sunday trip to Villa Park, Africa Top Sports reports.

mane will miss the game against aston villa after becoming the second player in the club to contact the virus.

Africa Top Sports learnt via www.liverpoolfc.com that the forward is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.

Mane was not included in thursday’s carabao cup defeat by arsenal at Anfield.

In line with the premier league protocols, clubs are expected to conduct tests for their players and officials.

Mane has made three appearances this season for the premier league champions and have scored three goals with one yellow card.

the club statement reads as follows;

“Sadio Mane has tested positive for covid-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.

“The forward, who started and scored in Monday’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal, has displayed minor symptoms of the virus but feels in good health overall.

“However, like with Thiago Alcantara, liverpool football club are – and will continue to – follow all protocols relating to covid-19 and mane will self-isolate for the required period of time.”
