Africa Soccer CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE : ‘AHLY PLAYERS BELIEVED IN PITSO’

Ahly FC skipper Mohamed El-Shenawi has credited coach Pitso Mosimane for instilling self-belief in the squad when he took over the reign last month.

In that short period of time, the South African led Ahly to the Caf Champions League glory after beating rivals Zamalek 2-1 in the final played on Friday in Cairo.

“My joy is indescribable. We were worried and pressed as we promised the fans to win the title after the quarter-final match against Mamelodi Sundowns,” the veteran goalkeeper El-Shenawi told Al-Ahly TV channel.

“I would like to thank coach Mosimane for his great effort with the team in the last period. The coach made the mission easier for all of us since his arrival after his first talk with the players about the club’s value, fans and history. The players believed in the coach especially as his speech came in time,” the 31-year old player added.

Mosimane also lifted the championship while coaching Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

The South African replaced Swiss Rene Weiler at Ahly.
