Africa Soccer COSAFA : ESWATINI FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATOR MOURNED

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) has mourned the death of Eswatini women’s football administrator Dudu Dube.

She played for her country’s national team, served as the women’s football association head and later graduated into a Fifa and Caf match commissioner.

Dube also played for clubs such as Kappa Ladies, Two For Joy and Shepherds Athletics and captained Eswatini  for six years.

On its website, Cosafa describes Dube as multi-talented and the face of women football administration in Southern Africa.

She also showed her versatility in sports, excelling in other disciplines such as taekwando and tennis player.

Dube played a leading role in petitioning Fifa to support African women’s football at their 1998 Congress in Los Angeles, the United States.

“We are desperately sad to hear of the passing of Dudu, a great friend of COSAFA and an excellent match commissioner who was most recently with us at our 2020 Women’s Championship,” Cosafa General Secretary Sue Destombes is quoted saying.

“She was always wonderful company and had left her mark on African women’s football. Her contribution to developing the game will not be forgotten.”

Dube was a graduate of the University of Eswatini and Tshwane University of Technology with majors in Environmental Health and a B-Tech in Environmental Studies respectively, according to Cosafa.

Cosafa says Dube was working for the Eswatini Ministry of Health as an Environmental Health Officer, and is survived by three children and four grandchildren.
