AFCON AFCON QUALIFIERS : I WILL SCORE—MALAWI STRIKER

Malawian striker Khuda Muyaba has characteristically made yet another bold promise that he would score in Wednesday’s clash against South Sudan.

The Malawian has talked tough ahead of the Group B qualifying match of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for Khartoum, Sudan.

Speaking to Football Association of Malawi Director of Communication, Gomezgani Zakazaka, Khuda said he was excited to return to the national team.

I was working hard knowing that I would get a chance to be called up again. I want to work hard for the team. I have never scored for the national team so this is my chance to do that,” Khuda said

A few weeks ago, Khuda vowed to score 20 goals for his seventh-placed South Africa’s GladAfrica Champions side, Polokwane City FC.

The former Silver Strikers forward has registered four goals in 15 games for Polokwane; an improvement from last season when he made one appearance in the top tier DStv Premiership.

Khuda was the star attraction in the Malawi Super League in 2019 when he promised to win Golden Boot Award and he did it after scoring 21 goals in 27 matches for Silver.

However, he is yet to translate his form to country having not scored in games against Eswatini (twice), Morocco and Angola since 2017.

Khuda believes all that would chance tomorrow, vowing that he would be among the goals.

Malawians should expect goals from me tomorrow because my job is to score. Khuda is synonymous with goals,” he said.

Apart from personal glory, the forceful striker also realizes that Malawi needs to win both games, including against Uganda on March 30 in Blantyre to stand any chance of sneaking through to the Afcon finals.

If we win here then we would have an advantage to also do well at home in Blantyre [against Uganda]. My message to the fans is that they should never lose hope in us. Malawians will see surprises. I promise results in tomorrow’s game,” Khuda said.

Both games are must-wins for Malawi who have four points in Group B whereas Uganda and leaders Burkina Faso have seven and eight points respectively, South Sudan anchor the table with three points.

Each team has played four games.

Malawi beat South Sudan 1-0 at home, lost 2-0 away in Uganda and 3-1 I in Burkina Faso then drew 0-0 at home against the Stallions.

Malawi qualified for the AFCON finals in 1984 and 2010 only.
