Algerian players abroad EGYPT : Ahmed Elmohamady leaves Aston Villa FC

Egyptian defender Ahmed Elmohamady has left Premier League side Aston Villa.

The Dean Smith-coached team confirmed the exit of Elmohamady alongside Neil Taylor and Tom Heaton. 

The trio are leaving Villa following the expiry of their respective contracts, the club says.

Villa have since praised the Egyptian right-back for his contribution to the team.

He played a huge part in the club’s promotion-winning campaign, with his superb cross providing Villa’s crucial opener in the play-off final triumph over Derby County at Wembley,” Villa website reports.

The Egypt international’s fine right-wing delivery also helped secure dramatic last-gasp semi-final success in the Carabao Cup in 2019/20, sending the club back to Wembley where Elmohamady started the showpiece final against Manchester City.”

He joined Villa in 2017 and went on to make 129 appearances and scored four goals.

The 33-year-old also played for Sunderland and Hull City in England.

Elmohamady is capped 92 times with Egypt and has six goals to his credit.

Egypt coach Hossam El-Badry recently overlooked Elmohamady for the Pharaoh’s captaincy opting to give the armband to Mohamed Salah.
