African players abroad ZAMBIA : I hope to learn from Jamie Vardy—Daka

Zambian hotshot Patson Daka has said he ‘cant believe’ that he is a Leicester City player and cannot wait to play alongside striker Jamie Vardy at the Premier League team.

I have been following Leicester from the time they won the Premier League. I follow their games and their playing style. Jamie Vardy is one of the players I look up to because of his playing style and the qualities that he has,” he told Leicester City FC TV

I’m so excited to be able to have this opportunity to be next to him and to learn from him. It’s just a privilege for me. The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world. I have been preparing for this challenge and I know it’s not going to be easy, but no one said it’s going to be easy!”

Daka has signed for the FA Cup champions from Red Bull Salzburg in Austria Bundesliga where he impressed.

He is set to become among very few Zambian footballers to grace the Premier League following in the footsteps of Collins Mbesuma and Emmanuel Mayuka who struggled at Portsmouth and Southampton respectively.

“I’m so, so excited to be able to be part of this great, historic club. It has been my dream and I’m so happy and excited,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to what’s coming next so much. I can’t believe it right now that I’m already wearing this great shirt… I feel like I’m already on the pitch from here! I can’t wait and it means so much to me to be honest. I’m just so happy. My dream has come true today.”

Daka said he hopes to build on his rich of form he showed in Austria Bundesliga.

He said he was impressed with the manner Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers spoke about the need to bring him on board.

“The way he was talking wasn’t to convince me to join the club, he was just telling me what they would expect from me and what they can do for me. At the end of the day, he told me it’s up to me to make the decision.

“It was easy for me because he showed me the love that I want from a manager, so I’m just looking forward to working with him,” the Zambian said.

The 22-year-old will link up with his new team-mates later this summer.
