Tokyo 2020 Ivory Coast through to Tokyo 2020 quarterfinals after draw against Germany

Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast secured their spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics quarterfinals following their 1-1 draw against Germany on Tuesday morning.

Soualiho Haidara’s men have faced a strong opposition in the German team as they suffered a lot in the first half where they just had 40 percent of ball possession.

This was in great part due to the drop of Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo as max Gradel and his new attackmates did not show a great relationship.

However, the Elephants were strengthened following the entrance of Diallo in the second half and scored the opener as they were more dangerous than their opponents.

And Sparta Prague’s centre-forward Youssouf Dao was the one who gave the lead to Franck Kessié’s teammates.

However, Ivory Coast missed concentration and conceded the equalizer few minutes later as Eduard Löwen scored a lovely free-kick to boost Germany’s quarterfinals hope.

But, the Mannschaft U-23 failed to score another goal and the draw was all Ivory Coast needed to survive that group of death where they finished at second position with 5 points behind Brazil who registered 8.
