Dstv Premiership SuperSport United go top after beating Golden Arrows

SuperSport United climbed to the summit of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season—as of Wednesday afternoon—following an impressive 3-1 win over Golden Arrows.

SuperSport have four points from two games having started the season with a barren draw against Cape Town City last week.

The log table might change depending on other results.

SuperSport went into the match at Lucas Moripe Stadium seeking to avenge the loss they suffered to Arrows in an MTN8 quarter-final match played days ago.

And the Kaitano Tembo’s men got more than what they bargained as Teboho Mokoena put them ahead in the 28th minute of first-half.

When play restarted in the second-half, SuperSport were still in control of matters with their direct football.

Little wonder, midfielder Sipho Mbule celebrated his call-up to Bafana Bafana with a goal in the 55th minute scored via a header.

Hopes of Arrows crawling back into the game ended when substitute Gabuza scored SuperSport’s third goal with eight minutes remaining on the clock.

Late in the game, Arrows sneaked in the consolation goal through a penalty which Siphamandla Sabelo converted after Nhlapo had fouled Pule Mmodi.

Next, SuperSport travel to face AmaZulu on September 19 after the international break.

In other games played on Tuesday, Orlando Pirates drew 0-0 for the second consecutive game after failing to defeat Gallants whereas Chippa United and holders Mamelodi Sundowns also shared the spoils.

Line-ups:

Arrows: Mlungwana, Mathiane, Sibisi, Cele, M.Dube, Zuke, Conco, Ndwandwe, Mmodi, Sibiya, M.Gumede
