Egypt Perfect Start For Queiroz As Egypt Won WCQ Warm-Up Game Over Liberia

The newly appointed coach Carlos Queiroz, for his debut at the helm of the Pharaohs, tested his local-based players ahead of Libya’s double header in the World Cup qualifiers with a friendly against Liberia at Borg Al-Arab Stadium. And a second half double from striker Mohamed Sherif handed Egypt a 2-0 win over Liberia on Thursday.

The Pharaohs produced a tame display in the first half, with Queiroz’ men dominating possession in the opening half. But they failed to create any real threat.

Their best chance came midway through the first half when veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said ran into the box after an exchange of passes with Ahmed “Zizo” El-Sayed to power a header that was brilliantly denied by keeper Alpha Jalloh.

Egypt then upped their game after the interval. Especially after talented winger Ramadan Sobhi came into the pitch to replace Mostafa Fathi.

Sherif broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, scoring in an empty net after a poorly cleared ball from the keeper.

Four minutes later, he doubled the lead after capitalising on another rebound in the area and brought it home from close range.

Queiroz made several substitutions to try out all his men throughout the game. However, they couldn’t make an impact, as the score remained unchanged.

The Portuguese coach is set to name his final squad this Friday ahead of Egypt’s encounters with Libya on 8 and 11 October.
