African players abroad Two Liverpool Legends React To Penalty Awarded To Mohamed Salah

Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 loss away to Leicester City at King Power Stadium to fall six points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City at the halfway point of the 2021/22 campaign.

Mohamed Salah missed a first half penalty for the Reds. And the club’s legends Emile Heskey and Steven McManaman have had their say on the penalty incident involving Leicester City center-back Wilfred Ndidi.

Referee Michael Oliver awarded a penalty to Liverpool after the Nigeria national teamer tripped Salah on the edge of the six-yard box in the fifteenth minute.

Schmeichel kept out Salah’s effort and the rebound was headed onto the bar by the Egypt international before Leicester City managed to clear the danger.

In the view of Heskey and McManaman, Michael Oliver awarding a spot kick to Liverpool was the right decision.

You’ve got Boubakary Soumare behind. You’ve got Amartey in front of Mohamed Salah. You don’t go diving and then making it easy for him like that.

“It was a penalty. I don’t think anybody could argue with that.”
McManaman said speaking on  Premier League Productions at halftime.

Heskey backed McManaman saying : “You can’t argue with that one. You’ve got to stand your ground and make him make a move. And he didn’t do that. He just stuck his leg out“.

Ndidi also gave away penalties against Legia Warsaw in the Europa League and Watford in the Premier League last month and the two kicks were converted.
