Dstv Premiership Sundowns coach Mngqithi reflects on win over Richards Bay

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has attributed his South African team’s 4-0 win over Richards Bay to control of the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 game’s second-half on Friday evening.

The DStv Premiership champions beat the second tier Bay to secure a Round of 16 slot courtesy of goals from Surprise Ralani, Rushine De Reuck, Pavol Safranko and Peter Shalulile.

Mngqithi told Sundowns website that his charges struggled in the opening stanza but upped the tempo in the second half at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

Our first half was a little bit lethargic, we were losing possession unnecessarily, we were too stretched and at times we would make the silly mistake of running with the ball and get caught in the process,” Mngqithi said.

“Our rest-defense was never the best, we were nearly caught in many instances and honestly speaking I think we did not display the dominance that you would expect from our team, but nonetheless we managed to score a very good goal.”

The Round of 32 games continue this weekend in South Africa with Orlando Pirates meeting with AmaZulu among the highlights.
