Egyptian Premier League Mosimane describes win as an apology to Al Ahly fans

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has described their 4-1 win over Pharco in an Egyptian Premier League match on Tuesday as a way of apologizing to the fans for the CAF Champions League home loss to Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend.

The South African spoke to Al Ahly website after the win in Alexandria kept the team two points clear at the summit of the domestic league table ahead of Pyramids.

“In the last league game against Misr Lel Makkasa, we played the same system (4-2-3-1) and we managed to score four goals and tonight we used the same system and scored four goals,” he said.

That is how to apologise to our fans (after losing the last match). We showed that we are hurt and angry after losing the last match. Our problem against Mamelodi Sundowns was scoring a goal…only the goal. Thank god tonight we scored and I am happy for our players.”

Mohamed Sherif opened the score before Mohamed Magdy Afsha (double) and Hussein El Shahat’s goal sealed the business.

Pharco scored the consolation goal through Mohamed El Saghiri.

Al Ahly next face Al Merrikh in the Champions League Group A game while yearning for a first win of the group in Cairo on Saturday.

The holders have drawn 0-0 with Al Hilal and lost to the group leaders Sundowns.
