UEFA Champions League Lewandowski’s hat-trick inspires Bayern to Champions League quarterfinal

Bayern Munich players celebrate with Robert Lewandowski as he scored four against Hertha Berlin To help them bounce back to winning ways.

Striker Robert Lewandowski’s first-half hattrick steered Bayern Munich to a 7-1 win over Austria Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday evening.

The German Bundesliga champions qualified for the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals 8-2 on aggregate after the two teams had shared the spoils in the first leg.

On Tuesday, Munich started the Round of 16 game on the front foot before a huge home crowd at the Allianz Arena.

The Champions League leading scorer for this season Lewandoskwi won a penalty after being fouled in the 12th minute.

The Polish international cooly converted from the penalty spot to give Bayern the lead.

Before Bayern ahead, Salzburg wasted two glorious scoring opportunities through wayward shooting.

Rash challenges cost Salzburg another penalty again after fouling Lewandowski for him to step forward and convert in the 21 minute.

A minute later, Lewandowski completed his hat-trick of the evening when he slotted into the empty net after Salzburg goalkeeper Kohn had miskicked a clearance.

Former Arsenal winger Gnabry put the game to bed when his powerful near post shot deflected off the palms of Salzburg goalkeeper into the net on the half-hour mark.

Munich led 4-0 in the first half before in the second stanza, Thomas Muller made it 5-0. The visitors snatched a consolation through Kjaergaard in the 70th minute.

Muller and Leroy Sane added two more goals in the last 10 minutes of the game to seal the emphatic win.
