South Africa Royal AM coach Maduka ready for any Nedbank quarterfinal opponent

South Africa’s Royal AM coach John Maduka has said his Durban side is ready to face any opponent in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.

The Malawian mentor said this in a post-match interview after Royal saw off Swallows FC 1-0 in the Round of 16 match played at Dobsonville Stadium on Friday.

“It means a lot [reaching the quarterfinals]. We are in the quarterfinals. It is a cup game [so] anything can happen. We wait for the draw to come out and we [will] take it from there, but we are happy to be in the quarterfinals,” he told SuperSport TV.

Maduka, whose team lies on second place of the DStv Premiership log table, said all quarterfinal opponents would be tough and tricky.

Therefore, the Bloemfontein Celtic legend said it would make no difference facing either high profile or small profile teams in the last eight stage.

“You can’t say you want a smaller, the so-called smaller teams; anyone that god gives us in that particular time we are ready to play them,” he said.

Midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela scored the only goal of the Friday match for Royal who are playing in the top-flight league after buying Celtic’s Premiership status.

Maduka is a legend in South Africa and Malawi football. He played for Silver Strikers in Malawi before signing for Umtata Bushbucks then moved to Zulu Royals and settled at Celtic.

The 51-year-old also had spells in Norway, Zimbabwe and England playing as a striker before being converted to a midfielder.
