Malawi Nigerian striker in line for Airtel Top 8 Player of the Tournament Award

Little-known Nigerian striker Babatude Adepoju has been nominated for the Airtel Top 8 Player of the Tournament award for 2021 in Malawi.

Adepoju played a starring role to help Malawi league serial champions Nyasa Big Bullets win their first-ever Air Top 8 trophy after easing past Silver Strikers.

The Nigerian scored eight goals, including four in a single game, to lead Bullets to the silverware.

Adepoju has been nominated alongside his Bullets team-mate Lanjesi Nkhoma, Stain Davie and Zebron Kalima both for Silver.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will unveil the winner on a date and venue to be announced.

FAM Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka told the association’s website that the competition’s Technical Study group came up with nominations.

Zakazaka said a selected group of coaches under the National Coaches Association, who were responsible for selecting player of the match in the competition and some sports journalists will vote for the award.
