Ghana Ex-Black Stars Captain Tells How Asante Kotoko Fans Frustrated Him

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan made return to Ghana Premier League signing a one-year deal with Legon Cities on a free transfer prior to the start of the 2021/22 football season.

The 36-year-old, who is the top goalscorer in Black Stars’ history with 51 goals, return to the home league 17 years after leaving Liberty Professionals. And during his stint at Legon Cities, Gyan felt offended as the fans of Asante Kotoko, who missed to sign, booed the striker.

I came to Legon Cities because my house is in Accra. But Asante Kotoko is my team and scoring against Hearts of Oak is in my DNA,” Gyan told Asaase Radio.

“To be honest when Legon Cities played against Asante Kotoko and my own Kotoko fans booed me, to be honest that really hurt. But I got over it and realised that it is all love. It did hurt though.”
