Africa Soccer Pirates see off Simba on penalties to qualify for Confederation Cup semis

South Africa’s Orlando Pirates beat Simba from Tanzania 4-3 on post-match penalties to clinch Confederation Cup semifinal slot on Sunday evening.

Deon Hotto, Gabadinho Mhango, Mabasa and goalkeeper Richard Ofori scored from the spot whereas Dlamini missed for Pirates with Simba missing two attempts and converting thrice to bow out.

Pirates had won 1-0 on the night through Kwame Peprah’s second half goal that erased the 1-0 lead which the visitors carried going into the match.

The hosts, after being frustrated to a goalless first half at the packed stadium, broke the deadlock in the second-half.

Simba suffered a setback after their lone striker Mugalu received a red card for a second bookable offence.

Such a numerical disadvantage came back to haunt the Tanzanians.

Pirates’ Ghanaian striker Kwame Peprah guided a perfectly weighted cross from the left wing into the net.

The Soweto side pushed for a winning goal but Linda Mntambo twice failed to score for Pirates when presented chances.

Confirmed line-ups:

Pirates: Ofori, Shandu, Maela, Ndah, Nyauza, Mabasa, Makaringe, Hotto, Lorch, Dzukamanja, Peprah

Simba: Manula, Israel, Hussein, Onyango, Wawa, Henock, Kapombe, Mkude, Mugalu, Kanoute, Sakho
