CAF Champions League Major Returns As Al Ahly Name Squad For Wydad CAF CL Final Clash

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane announced on Wednesday a 28-man squad for the anticipated clash of Al Ahly against Wydad Casablanca in the Champions League final on 30 May.

Winners of the two past editions, the Cairo giants take on Wydad at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca as they eye an unprecedented hat-trick of straight triumphs.

On the other hand, Wydad will have the home advantage entering their first Champions League since 2017.

Ahead of the game, Al Ahly were handed a double boost with midfield trio Amr El-Sulya, Aliou Dieng, and Hamdy Fathi all returning to full fitness after missing Ahly’s past three games.

Commanding centre-back Badr Benoun has also been named in Al Ahly’s travelling squad after being sidelined for nearly six months due to a heart inflammation that followed a COVID-19 infection.

The squad also includes his central defensive partner Mohamed Abdel-Moneim who missed Ahly’s last Egyptian Premier League game against Enppi due to a groin injury.

Both are unlikely to feature in the game.

The Red Devils made their way to the CAF Champions League final by cruising past ES Setif in a dominant 6-2 win on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Wydad Casablanca managed to overcome Petro Atletico de Luanda 4-2 to book a spot in the final.

Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shenawy, Ali Lotfy, Mostafa Shobeir, and Hamza Alaa.

Defenders: Ramy Rabia, Yasser Ibrahim, Mahmoud Metwally, Badr Benoun, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Mohamed Hany, Karim Fouad, Ayman Ashraf, Ali Maaloul, and Mahmoud Wahid.

Midfielders: Amr El-Sulya, Hamdy Fathi, Mohamed Mahmoud, Aliou Dieng, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Hussein El-Shahat, Taher Mohamed, Walid Soliman, Ahmed Nabil Koka, and Ahmed Abdelkader.

Forwards: Percy Tau, Mohamed Sherif, Salah Mohsen, and Hossam Hassan.
