Newly Appointed coach Louis Gasset lined up a very strong side for the Elephants of Ivory Coast to see off the Chipolopolo of Zambia with the impressive scoreline in the opening Group H game of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Yamoussoukro Stadium, inaugurated thanks to this meeting.
The Elephants managed to break down the resolute Zambian defence after the break as all the fours goals were scored in the second-half.
Ivory Coast dominated (3-1) Zambia on Friday in the first day of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers. However, the victory took time to take shape.
At the break, despite a slight Ivorian domination, the two teams were tied (0-0). It was not until the 67th minute that Serge Aurier opened the scoring. Christian Kouamé doubled the lead (76th). Ibrahima Sangaré made it 3-0 (89th).
Patson Daka saves the honours in the extra time (90+4). Shorthanded in the penalty area, the Zambian striker finds the net, scoring the only goal for the Chipolopolos.
