Chelsea UCL: Aubameyang First Game With Chelsea Ends In Defeat

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang first game for Chelsea ended in a shock defeat to Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb on the opening night of their UEFA Champions League .

Aubameyang who joined Chelsea on the last day of the summer transfer window was handed a starting jersey by Thomas Tuchel in front.

The former Arsenal forward played for 56th minute before he was substituted as Mislav Orsic’s first-half strike was enough to earn a 1-0 victory for the Croatian side.

Thomas Tuchel’s team was caught off guard in the 13th minute as Orsic outran £70 million signing Wesley Fofana and dinked the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga after latching onto a pass from striking partner Bruno Petkovic.

The hosts held off a late onslaught while withstanding intense Chelsea pressure before taking the lead. Chances for Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech to score went begging.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a recent addition for Chelsea, came the closest when he attempted to score on his team’s opening play but the goal was disallowed.

From Mateo Kovacic’s diagonal pass, Ben Chilwell had just barely veered offside, rendering useless his low ball across for Aubameyang’s tap-in.
