Nigerian Players abroad UCL: Osimhen Reacts To Napoli’s Victory Against Liverpool

Victor Osimhen has described Napoli’s UEFA Champions League win against Liverpool as ‘Bittersweet feeling’ to him and his teammates.

Osimhen and his Napoli teammates put up brave performance to beat Liverpool 4-1 in their UEFA Champions League Group A opener.

Osimhen who was almost a doubt for the game troubled Liverpool defense and could have registered his name in the scoresheet but missed from the spot.

The Super Eagles forward wrote on Twitter:

At the break, Jurgen Klopp’s team trailed 3-0, but it might have been worse when Alisson saved a penalty and Virgil van Dijk stopped a shot at the goal line.

In the fifth minute, after Victor Osimhen had struck the post, Piotr Zielinski gave Napoli the lead from the penalty spot.

Prior to Zielinski scoring again after the break, Napoli’s lead had been increased by Andre-Frank Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone.

Joe Gomez had a difficult time controlling Osimhen in the first half, so it was a relief when the Napoli forward hobbled off before halftime due to an injury.

Simeone, who took his place, scored in his Champions League debut after only three minutes as Liverpool were completely taken aback by the home team’s persistent forward pressure.

The visitors had opportunities; Van Dijk’s header was superbly saved, Mohamed Salah sent a shot at the goalie, and a teaser cross dangerously deflected off Harvey Elliott’s leg at the back post.

However, Liverpool were careless with the ball—even Salah mishandled a great pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold when well-positioned in the box—and their defensive errors were rewarded by an ebullient Napoli team.
