Africa Soccer CAF CONFED Cup: ASEC Leapfrogs Rivers United To Top Group B

Rivers United of Nigeria fell to second place in Group B of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing to Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosa.

The hosts took control of the game right from the start, scoring in the second minute through Mofesse Karidoula.

The Pride of River attempted to fight back in the first stanza, but found it extremely difficult to break the host’s backline.

The Nigerians won the first leg convincingly by a score of 3-0, but the second leg proved difficult to come by.

The second half began with Rivers United attempting to tie the game but failing to score on several occasions.

As a result, ASEC Mimosa won the group with 12 points, while Rivers United, which had led the group earlier in the day, fell to second place.

Both teams await the draw for their quarter-final opponents, which will take place on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt.
