Nigerian Players abroad Chukwueze Stars As Villarreal Stun Real Madrid In Santiago Bernabeu

Real Madrid risked falling further behind Barcelona in the LaLiga title race after falling to Villarreal 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Yellow Submarine held their hosts at bay twice, with Samuel Chukwueze providing two goals and an assist, including a superb winner.

Pau Torres’ own goal had given Madrid the lead before Chukwueze tucked home an equalizer, with substitute Jose Morales then leveling the score after Vinicius Junior had put Madrid back in front following a fine solo run.

However, Chukwueze scored again in the final 10 minutes to give Villarreal a famous victory, while VAR overturned a late penalty award for Madrid.

Vinicius was quickly pulling the strings for Real Madrid, and after 16 minutes, he cut a pass back to Marco Asensio, who saw his attempt to divert the ball back into the middle deflected into his own net by Torres.

Chukwueze finally capitalized on a missed opportunity by beating Nacho on the edge of the box after receiving a pass from Giovanni Lo Celso and expertly dispatching his finish.

Vinicius powered past Chukwueze and Aissa Mandi into the box and fired past Pepe Reina from close range to restore Madrid’s lead three minutes after the break.

Mandi had a goal disallowed for offside, but with 20 minutes remaining, Chukwueze’s low cross into the box caused panic among the Madrid defenders, allowing Morales to stab home at the second attempt.

Chukwueze then struck again, brilliantly curling past Courtois from the edge of the box to put Villarreal ahead, though Madrid thought a late penalty had given them a lifeline.

Following Eduardo Camavinga’s run into the box, a penalty was awarded for an alleged handball by Mandi, but a VAR review revealed no contact and the on-field decision was overturned, with Villarreal claiming an impressive victory.

Madrid will play Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday, while Villarreal will play Real Valladolid at home on Saturday.
