Uganda Uganda Cup: Vipers SC demolish Bright Stars FC in Kitende

Vipers SC will take a healthy advantage into their return leg semi-final clash of the Uganda Cup after thrashing Bright Stars 4-0 at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

In the one-sided fixture in Kitende, the Venoms, who are chasing their third Cup final in three successive years, scored through Bright Anukani, who grabbed a brace, Milton Karisa, and Karim Watambala to silence their opponents.

Anukani scored the opener in the 8th minute after he stepped up to convert from the penalty spot. This was after Karisa had been brought down in the area by defender Warren Buule, and Anukani took the honours to send the keeper to the wrong side.

The Ugandan Premier League champions then doubled their lead in the 17th minute when Karisa raced to meet a cross from Yunus Sentamu and he tapped it home from close range.

Anukani then made it 3-0 ten minutes later, when he scored from a beautifully taken effort that hit the upright post before dropping into the empty net before Watambala notched the fourth in the 90th minute when he scored from the penalty spot.

Vipers are still in the race to retain the league title as they are topping the 15-team table with 49 points, the same number as second-placed KCCA FC and third-placed SC Villa with two matches to spare.

In the remaining two matches, Vipers will face BUL at FUFA Technical Centre on May 23 before they finish the season with a date against Jinja SSS at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on May 27.
