Kenya FKF Premier League to have mega sponsorship package – Namwamba

Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba has revealed that from next season the FKF Premier League will have a mega sponsorship deal that will boost clubs taking part in the competition.

Namwamba’s comments come just a week after FKF President Nick Mwendwa announced this year’s winner of the top-flight will not receive any price money for the achievement.

“I promise you, we are putting together a mega package, a package that has never been seen before ahead of the start of the next Kenya Premier League [FKFPL] season that will include a live broadcast of football,” Namwamba told NTV Sports.

He added: “That will include significant sponsorship money going to the pockets of clubs and therefore the bags of players that is part of what we’re putting together under this Talanta Hela program.”

In a recent interview, Mwendwa confirmed a huge sponsorship deal was in the offing for the league and lower leagues.

“We can only pray for a better new season and I can promise you something huge is coming up soon, it may come even before the new season kicks off in August,” explained Mwendwa adding: “It will be a huge deal that will support all the leagues, from Premier League to the lower leagues.

“This is a sure deal, I know we will sign it and I urge the players and clubs to be patient, things will not be the same again in the new season, teams will get enough money to prepare and see off the season, we will also be able to properly pay winners and plan for the gala to reward the best-performing players.”

As is always the norm from previous seasons, a champion for the local top-flight received Ksh4m for achieving the feat while last season under the Transitional Committee, Tusker who emerged winners, pocketed Ksh2m.

Tusker and Gor Mahia are currently chasing for this season’s crown with the Brewers topping the 18-team table on 65 points, one more than K’Ogalo with three matches left to conclude the season.
