AFCON AFCON2023Q: Ethiopia, Malawi To Play For Pride in Zimpeto

Tuesday at the Estádio do Zimpeto in Mozambique, Ethiopia and Malawi will play in the Group D match for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The game will begin at 4:00 CAT.

After losing 3-2 to Guinea at home on March 27 and having one win in their previous three Group D games, Walia Ibex has suffered three losses and one victory.

Ethiopia is now ranked fourth in Group D, tied with third-placed Malawi on points (three), although Walia Ibex’s hopes of making the AFCON finals have already been dashed.

On March 28, Egypt hosted a match, extending their losing streak in Group D to three games after suffering three consecutive losses and one victory.

The Flames trail second-placed Guinea by six points, and a loss to Ethiopia would put an end to Malawi’s chances of making the finals, which will be held in Ivory Coast next year.

Due to an ongoing injury, Ethiopia’s standout forward Abubeker Nasir was left out of their most recent roster. Nasir plays for Mamelodi Sundowns.

On the other hand, Malawi must find a way to defeat Ethiopia without their lethal attacker Frank Mhango, who is also sidelined with an injury.
