Europe Yaya Toure : African legend lands new job in Belgian Pro League

Former Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure has landed a new job in Belgium where he wil work as an assistant in a Pro League side.

Less than a year after being appointed Tottenham U-16 head coach, the former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder gets a new job.

Belgian Pro League side Standard de Liège announced that Yaya Toure will be their head coach starting from 2023/24 season.

“Yaya Touré has joined our pro staff. With the arrival of Yaya Touré as assistant coach, our first team staff is now complete. Yaya will assist Carl Hoefkens along with Geoffrey Valenne and Frazer Robertson. Standard de Liège welcome this great champion as well as the best under our colors”, the club statement reads.

Reacting to the good news, Yaya Toure was full of joy as he can’t wait to start the new journey.

He also bid farwell to his former Tottenham players and everyone at the club he worked with.

“I am delighted to share that I will be taking on the role of Assistant Coach at Standard de Liège. It’s an honour to join the club and I am looking forward to working with Head Coach, Carl Hoefkens! Let’s do this”, Yaya wrote on his Twitter handle.

“I would like to thank everyone at the Tottenham Hotspur academy for their support in the 18 months I spent with the club. A special media to Dean Rastrick, Chris Powell and all the young players. Thank you”, he added.
