Bundesliga Leverkusen Snatch Late Equalizer To Extend Unbeaten Run To 46

Bundesliga winners Bayer Leverkusen came back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, extending their record unbeaten run to 46 games in all competitions thanks to a late goal from Robert Andrich.

The Germany international completed their most recent comeback, having already scored a stoppage-time goal to rescue a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund last week.

He did this by slotting in from eight metres after Florian Wirtz had floated a free kick into the box.

Securing their first-ever league title, Xabi Alonso’s club advances to the German Cup final and faces AS Roma in the Europa League semi-finals.

This season, they have also come back from behind many times, and they have now scored 17 goals in all competitions in the 89th minute or later.

Leverkusen had a quiet first half and fell behind 2-0 shortly after the restart when Chris Fuehrich scored on the rebound after custodian Lukas Hradecky had palmed the ball onto the post in the 47th minute.

Ten minutes later, Deniz Undav increased the visitors’ lead, and Leverkusen didn’t begin to mount a comeback until Stuttgart nearly scored a third goal.

Amine Adli’s low shot in the 61st minute gave them a lead, but keeper Alexander Nuebel responded with three outstanding stops to preserve Stuttgart’s narrow advantage.

In the 87th minute, Leverkusen’s Hradecky made a brilliant save to deny Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy. Deep into stoppage time, Andrich saved the day to continue their remarkable unbeaten streak.

Stuttgart is five points behind Bayern Munich in second position with 64.

Leverkusen leads with three games left, having accumulated 81 points.
