AFCON U23 TOURNAMENT AFCONU23: Mali Pip Niger 3- To Reach First Ever Semi Final

Mamadou Sangare and Cheickna Doumbia were the heroes of the night as both players scored to ensure that Mali defeated Nigeria to reach their first ever semi final at AFCONU23.

Niger Republic who got off to the tournament on an impressive note after they held defending champions, Egypt to a goalless draw in the opening game, also won their second against Gabon.

The Young Mena were looking to cause an upset against Mali in the final group game.

A pulsating game saw both side failed to break the deadlock before the break with chances begging that was not converted.

The second half became an intense game as both sides pushed for the goal.

However, it was Sangare broke the deadlock for the Malian side as he converted from the spot.

Niger finding themselves trailing began to push for the equalizer but Doumbia goal dealt the final blow to Niger as he scored in the 90th minute and Mali picked the ticket for the semi final of the AFCONU23.

The two finalists of the competition will represent Africa at next year’s Olympic games in Paris.
