Kenya AFC Leopards held as promoted Shabana FC lose season opener

AFC Leopards and FC Talanta played to a 0-0 draw in their 2023-24 FKF Premier League season opener at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Both teams showcased intricate passing in the first half but failed to find the opener, resulting in a 0-0 halftime score. In the second half, FC Talanta’s Lucas Weitere received a red card in the 60th minute for a dangerous foul on Cliff Nyakeya, leaving his team with 10-men.

Ingwe made a double substitution in the 68th minute, bringing in Hassan Beja and Brian Yakhama for Kevin Kimani and Jaffari Owiti. The match ended 0-0. This trend continued in the matches between Posta Rangers and Bidco United, as well as Nairobi City Stars and Muhoroni Youth.

Meanwhile, at Homa Bay Stadium, Muranga Seal FC secured three points with a 1-0 victory over Shabana. A 90th-minute goal from their forward Awitta Batts marked a winning start to their season.
