Kenya Give Tom Juma time! AFC Leopards pleads with fans despite poor start

AFC Leopards have come out to the defence of under-fire head coach Tom Juma after their staggering start to the 2023-24 FKF Premier League season.

Ingwe, who are seeking to win the trophy that has eluded them since 1998, kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 draw against FC Talanta before losing their second fixture 1-0 against KCB on Saturday.

The outcome of the two matches has left Ingwe supporters already calling for the club’s top hierarchy to fire Juma, who took charge of the team on a permanent basis after replacing Belgian Patrick Aussems, who quit citing personal and family reasons at the end of last season.

However, according to Ingwe’s secretary general Gilbert Andugu, the 46-year-old former Harambee Stars midfielder needs time to roll out his philosophy with the team and further called on the fans to give him time so as to deliver positive results. “I want to plead with the fans to give Juma and his technical bench enough time because one thing I am sure about, we will start getting good results soon,” said Andugu, adding: “Juma needs time to put his work in place and to help the team gel together.”

He added: “It is too soon for the fans to start calling for Juma’s head, we have only played two matches, you cannot judge a coach from two matches, we need to give him humble time to do his work, I know we will start winning soon, we have good players in the squad than last season and I am confident everything will be good in due course.”

After the Fifa international break, Ingwe will return to action against Muhoroni Youth on September 16.
