Nigeria NFF Mandates Technical Committee To Speak With Waldrum

The Nigeria Football Federation NFF has instructed its Technical Committee to speak with Randy Waldrum, the head coach of the Super Falcons, in order to explore extending Waldrum’s contract with the NFF.

The Super Falcons went unbeaten in regular time in all four of their games until losing to England in a penalty shootout under Waldrum’s leadership at the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand.

“We have given the Technical Committee the go-ahead to hold talks with Randy Waldrum as we consider an extension of his current contract with the NFF.

“They have to do this quickly as the team has a Women Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match next week.

The man has done well by leading the team to an impressive outing at the FIFA World Cup,” NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, said on Tuesday.

In 2021, Waldrum committed to a two-year deal with Africa’s favoured women’s side, helping them to earn spots in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in 2022.

The Super Falcons, who were competing in Australia, held Olympic champions Canada to a scoreless tie in Melbourne, defeated the co-hosts by a score of 3-2 in Brisbane, and were held scoreless once again by Republic of Ireland.

In the Round of 16, despite having the advantage, the game was scoreless after regulation and overtime, prompting a penalty shootout, in which the Falcons came in second.
