Friendly Voeller Guides Germany To 2-1 Victory Over France

Gudi Voeller guided Germany to a 2-1 win over France in their international friendly on Tuesday to halt a three-game losing streak.

The win has now made Germany  to reclaim some confidence after a poor run that resulted in the firing of coach Hansi Flick on Sunday.

Germany, led by sports director  Voeller for the game, Thomas Mueller and Leroy Sane gave the Euro 2024 host the victory capping a tumultuous few days for the four-time world champions.

With captain and star scorer Kylian Mbappe sitting on the bench, the 2022 World Cup runners-up France did not field their best team, but Germany’s overall performance was vastly improved from Saturday’s 4-1 home loss to Japan that resulted in Flick’s dismissal.

Prior to Tuesday, the Germans had won only four of their previous 17 games.

Desperate to get their home fans excited for the tournament the following year, the Germans set out to repair their damaged reputation as a football superpower.

After a beautiful 13-pass play, veteran Mueller scored his 45th international goal in the fourth minute as a result of their intense pressing.

The French entered the game gently and became more dangerous as Randal Kolo Muani and Aurelien Tchouameni increased the pressure on the host defenders.

Marc Andre ter Stegen made a wonderful save on Tchouameni’s low drive in the 57th minute, and he also stopped Antoine Griezmann from scoring in the 82nd minute by deflecting his attempt over the crossbar.

Sane then finished off a fast move to score in the 87th minute before tripping Marcus Thuram and giving away a penalty two minutes later.

Griezmann converted the penalty to make the score closer for the visitors but the host held on to the victory.
