UEFA Champions League UCL: Newcastle United Hold AC Milan To Draw At San Siro

In the opening match of Group F, Newcastle United and AC Milan battled to a 0-0 draw at San Siro on Tuesday, marking Newcastle United’s return to the Champions League after a two-decade absence.

Rafael Leao, a Milan winger who kept the Newcastle defence on its toes the whole game, missed his best opportunity in the 34th minute after eluding two defenders with an intricate backheel.

He was similarly wasteful in the second half, heading a cross from Alessandro Florenzi that was inches from hitting him over the bar.

Only counterattacks were attempted by the visitors, and the English team managed just one shot on goal.

The draw may have harmed both sides’ chances in a difficult group that includes Borussia Dortmund, the 1997 champion, and Ligue 1 champion Paris St. Germain.
