Bendel Insurance fairytales at this season’s CAF Confederation Cup have ended in the second round preliminary after they lost to RS Berkane in Morrocco.

Youssef Zghoudi’s lone goal against Bendel Insurance of Nigeria ensured that the 2021 champions would continue on their path to reclaiming their crown.

After a 2-2 away draw in Benin City, the Moroccans welcomed the Nigerians and did just enough with their lone goal to advance with a 3-2 overall score.

In the meantime, SuperSport United of South Africa handily defeated Gaborone United of Botswana 3-0 in a game played in Polokwane enabling the club from the nation’s capital to advance 4-1 on aggregate and blasted into the group stages.

Gavin Hunt’s team advanced to the group stage with ease thanks to a brace from Nigerian international Etiosa Ighodaro and a late goal from Bradley Grobler.

Hunt is a tactician who led Kaizer Chiefs to the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League two years ago, therefore United are fortunate to have him as their manager.

Despite defeating Mali’s Stade Malien by a score of 3-1 in Burundi, Aigle Noir was unable to go past the group rounds.

The Malians entered the match with a 2-0 first-leg lead, which served them well because the lone goal allowed them to advance with a 3-3 aggregate score.
