Rwanda Promoted Amagaju hold AS Kigali to remain unbeaten

Amagaju FC’s fairytale story continued in match day five of the 2023-24 Rwanda Premier League as they held AS Kigali to a 1-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday, October 1.

The newly promoted side are unbeaten in the league this season and they are lying second with 9 points. They got off to a bright start against AS Kigali with Ndayishimiye Edouard firing them ahead in the fourth minute with a fabulous effort.

AS Kigali lifted themselves up and eventually got the equalizer through Erisa Keith Ssekisambu in the 32nd minute. It was generally a great game with both teams exhibiting quality football. It is early days yet but the performance of Amagaju against Rayon Sports and AS Kigali all in away encounters has shown that teams who underrate them do so at their own peril.

Elsewhere at the Ngoma Stadium on Sunday, Muhazi FC struggled again. They were held to a goalless draw by Marines FC. Muhazi are lying bottom of the table with three points from five games. They have scored just once in five games and it was through Ghanaian central midfielder Joseph Sackey in their game against Gorilla. On Saturday, Bugesera FC walloped Gasogi United 3-0. Two goals from Ani Elijah, Aime Gakiza and an own goal from Hakim Hamiss saw the home team cruise to a big win.

Mukura FC visited Ubworoherane Stadium to hold league leaders Musanze FC to a 0-0 draw in a highly entertaining encounter. Etoile also pipped Etincelles by a goal to nothing. Gorilla will play as guests to Kiyovu Sports on Monday, October 2, whereas Sunrise vs APR and Police vs Rayon games were postponed to a later date.
