The French Football Association (LFP) have sanctioned OGC Nice right-back Youcef Atal for supporting Palestine.
Atal initially made a social media post to show his solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza but was forced to delete it shortly after it was met with backlash. The 27-year-old later issued a public apology to Nice before he was suspended by the club ‘until further notice’ last week.
According to KingFut, despite his apology, the French prosecution opened a preliminary investigation regarding the Algerian’s post on charges of advocating for terrorism. The LFP’s disciplinary committee have now imposed a seven-game suspension which will take effect starting from Tuesday, October 31. The Algerian has made six appearances in Ligue 1 this season while scoring once against Strasbourg back in September.
