FIFA World Cup FIFA 2026 WCQ: Tanzania Vs Morocco Preview, Confirmed Starting XI

Tuesday night’s CAF World Cup qualifiers between Tanzania and Morocco will take place at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

Tanzania’s goal is to win both matches to start what could become a journey to North America.

Tanzania took on Niger on Saturday afternoon at Stade de Marrakech, and after being placed in a competitive area with Congo, Zambia, Morocco, and Niger, they emerged from the match with all of the points possible, launching their 2026 qualification campaign.

The Kilimanjaro Stars defeated Niger on the opening day of play last time out, but Morocco hasn’t yet begun their campaign to compete in the next World Cup.

In their meager footballing history, the Kilimanjaro Stars have only faced Morocco three times. The last time the teams met at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in March 2013, the hosts defeated the Atlas Lions 3-1.

Morocco will be hoping to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup with a perfect qualifying campaign after their incredible run to the competition’s semifinals in Qatar last year. However, they have to wait until now to find out their fate.

The Red Sea Camels chose to pull out of the qualification process because of concerns that certain players will apply for political asylum abroad. The Atlas Lions were supposed to play Eritrea earlier in this international window to open Group E.

Morocco had a mixed 2023 after losing the World Cup in the round of sixteen thanks to the brilliance of Kylian Mbappe and France. They defeated South American powerhouse Brazil in a friendly match in March but also played out an uninspired goalless draw with Cape Verde and Peru.

After making an impression at the World Cup last year, several of the Atlas Lions’ top players—such as Sofyan Amrabat and custodian Bono—got lucrative transfers to Manchester United of the Premier League.
