Transfers Done Deal: Uganda defender Elvis Bwomono signs for St Mirren

St Mirren FC have sealed the signing of defender Elvis Bwomono subject to international clearance and registration.

The 25-year-old Ugandan international has been training with Saints for the last few weeks and joins up with Stephen Robinson’s men until the end of the season with the club holding the option to extend by a further year.

A right-sided defender, Elvis began his professional career at Southend United where he made 132 appearances between 2017 and 2021. After leaving the English side, Elvis moved to Icelandic outfit ÍBV in May 2022 and went on to play 48 times. He now joins up with Saints and will be available for selection once the January transfer window opens.

“I’m delighted to join the club,” he told stmirren.com, adding: “I’ve been here for a few weeks training, getting to understand the philosophy and the club as well. It’s been fantastic. Everything has been great both on and off the pitch. The boys have been very good with me, it’s a very good group. Training has been really good and the boys have helped me settle in.”

He added: “I knew about the club from the likes of Anton Ferdinand and Joe Shaughnessy playing here. I know Richard [Taylor] as well and when I knew I was coming up here I spoke to him and he told me lots about the club. I can’t wait to get started.”
