AFCON AFCON 2023: Burkina Faso vs Mauritania confirmed line up

Burkina Faso have named a strong squad for their Africa Cup of Nations opener against Mauritania at the Stadium of Peace Bouake in Ivory Coast on Tuesday.

Head-to-Head;

  • This will be the first encounter between Burkina Faso and Mauritania at the AFCON.
  • Burkina Faso are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Mauritania in all competitions (W2 D2). Mauritania’s last victory was in September 2018, it was a AFCON qualifier (2-0) played on home soil, in Nouakchott.
  • This is Burkina Faso’s 13th appearance in the AFCON. In their previous 12 participations, they have either been eliminated in the group stages (8 times) or at least reached the semi-finals (4 times), including the final in 2013 (0-1 v Nigeria).
  • This is Mauritania’s 3rd appearance at the AFCON, all of them taking place since 2019. They have finished bottom of their group in each of their two previous participations. Mauritania have never won a match at the AFCON (D2 L4) and have never been ahead at any point in a game at the AFCON.
