Transfers DONE DEAL: Jesse Were returns to Zesco United on short-term deal

Zambian Super League outfit Zesco United have announced the return of Kenyan International striker and century-goal top scorer Jesse Were from Kansanshi Dynamos FC.

A statement on Zesco’s social media pages confirmed the return of Were by saying: “Welcome back to Team Ya Ziko Jesse Were and we wish you another century milestone in your stay at Zesco United.”

The 34-year-old Were, a naturally gifted star striker with a razor-sharp eye for goals, first signed for the Team Ya Ziko in 2016 from the Kenyan Premier League side Tusker FC and went on to win four league titles, two ABSA Cup Championships and two Charity Shield honours for Zesco before his trophy-laden five years came to an end. Jesse Were left Zesco as the record goal scorer and the first player to score 100 goals.

In January 2022, Were joined Kansanshi Dynamos and contributed significantly to the team’s seventh-position strong finish in the 2021-2022 Super League and was club top scorer after netting eight goals and providing six assists for Mabanga Boys.

Were has re-joined the nine-time Zambian champions in their tenth title chase up to the end of the 2023-2024 season and he was unveiled at the Zesco United Secretariat in Ndola on Wednesday.
