AFCON AFCON 2023: Klopp provides Salah injury update ahead of Chelsea clash

Klopp Salah

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained the injury situation of Mohamed Salah ahead of their Premier League fixture against Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Egyptian forward picked an injury during the Pharaoh’s 2-2 group stage draw against Ghana and was withdrawn. He later travelled to England for further treatment and thus missed Egypt’s 8-7 penalty shootout defeat against DR Congo in the round of 16.

Had Egypt qualified for the quarter-finals, there were reports that Salah could have returned to Ivory Coast to feature in the last eight battle. However, according to Klopp, Salah is not ready and will not be available for the team’s next two matches

“He’s not ready for this game, not ready for the next game [against Arsenal]…and then not,” said Klopp, adding: “So he’s injured. I’m not sure if there was a misunderstanding in the beginning. He’s injured and a muscle injury takes time.

“It could have been much worse, but he’s not available at the moment. He’s just doing his rehab.”
