Rwanda Peace Cup: Dominant APR FC defeat Vision FC to storm semis

Rayon Sports booked their spot in the Peace Cup semi-finals after eliminating second tier side Vison FC out of the quarterfinals with a resounding 5-1 aggregate win.

The Blues had a two-goal advantage prior to Tuesday’s second leg clash at Kigali Pele Stadium and they started from where they stopped to win the second leg 3-1. Julien Mette made some changes to his first leg lineup, with Youssef Rharb, Paul Gomis, Felix Ndekwe, and Francois Mugisha starting in the second leg.

And it was Ndekwe who opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing Kevin Muhire’s pass to fire the Blues ahead before Elie Ganijuru doubled the lead in the 24th minute as his cross took a deflection off the goalkeeper’s hand and found its way into the net.

Vision pulled one goal back through Jean Claude Harerimana in the 51st minute as they looked to fight back. Harerimana came close to equalizing with a long range shot in the 54th minute, but Rayon’s shot stopper Khadim Ndiaye made a crucial save albeit sustaining an injury in the process.

Rayon were awarded a penalty in stoppage time after substitute Arsene Tuyisenge was fouled inside the box. Striker Paul Gomis confidently converted the penalty, scoring his first goal in ‘Blues’ colors. Rayon will face either Police or Gorilla FC in the semi-finals.
