Olympic Games Ellis names Banyana Banyana squad for Nigeria showdown

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has announced a preliminary 30-member squad for the highly anticipated Fourth Round CAF Women’s Olympic qualifier against Nigeria next month.

The women’s team are two games away from qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after beating Tanzania 1-0 (aggregate 4-0) in a second leg Third Round CAF Women’s Olympic qualifier at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga last month.

Coach Ellis’ charges will go into camp on March 25 in preparation for the showdown against their long-time rivals. The final 23-player squad will be finalised for the Olympic qualifier when Ellis names the team later this month. The venue for the home leg of the mouthwatering clash will be communicated by the South African Football Association (SAFA) in the coming days.

Wendy Shongwe was withdrawn from the preliminary squad list due to injury. Kholosa Biyana was also not considered as she suffered an injury during the Olympic qualifier against Tanzania last month.
