Nigeria Premier League NPFL Issues Warning To Clubs Over Disruptive Behaviour

In an additional effort to prevent disruptive behavior during the final stretch of the 2023–24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, the league’s organizers have once again issued two practice directives.

The memos, which were signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, directed clubs to follow established protocols regarding sitting on the technical bench and proper behavior for ball boys.

The memo expressed disapproval of any observed deviations from these protocols.

“We would want to remind all clubs of the proper usage of the technical bench as regards those that are permitted to sit on it during matches.

“The Technical Bench is a reserved area strictly designated for substitute players, coaches and backroom staff with defined roles to play in the course of a match.”

The message issued cautioned General Managers and Club Chairmen from sitting on the technical bench during games.

The NPFL demanded that Ball Boys cease their inappropriate behaviour, which is interfering with matches. This practice has been developing.

“Such actions, including withholding balls, delayed return of balls to the field and other related disruptions are completely unacceptable.

“We must emphasise that these actions not only go against the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, but also constitute a clear breach of Rules 1.1 of the Frameworks and Rules”.

Clubs were informed that failure to comply with the requirements would result in a N1 million fine for the offending clubs.
